About me? That’s a tough question because I’ll either say more than you really wanted to hear, or I won’t say enough to be interesting. I’m a husband, father, and software developer by trade. I spend too much time on the computer, and some time gardening. The rest of the time is spent with my family. I enjoy learning new things, especially if they have to do with technology, science, raising children, or gardening.

Hi, thank you for your instructions on setting up AFP, Bonjour and Time Machine. My question is– how reliable and stable is it?

I’m considering setting up some opensolaris servers for Mac clients and am shooting for ultimate reliability. I really like ZFS and would love to deploy that to Mac computers, but want to ask you how reliable AFP, Bonjour, and Time Machine is. thanks for any input!!

For the two Macs in our house it seems to work fine. However, what I have observed is that the dnssd seems to die and thus the Bonjour-like feature of automatically appearing in Finder on the Macs doesn’t work. You can still connect, but you have to know the name of the host. I investigated but could not work out why that happened.
